“You’re too fat…”
That night, as I stood in front of my mirror waiting for my shower to heat up
My coach’s comment played on repeat in my head…
"You're too fat to be a competitive figure skater..."
My eyes scanned over every inch and angle of my body like a hawk...
Steam started to fill the room…
Pinching the skin on my waist and stomach I felt a burning sensation of self-hatred overcome me...
“My body is SUCH a failure…” I whispered in disgust.
I felt out of control…
Tears flowing down my cheeks…
I felt ugly.
I hated my body.
“Ok Callie, you can lose weight, how hard could it be?” I told myself.
So I did exactly what any 16 year old with no background in nutrition or fitness would do,
I “researched” solutions.
“How to lose weight”
“Hourglass abs workouts”
“How to slim thighs”
“How to burn fat”
It was a slippery slope, and I started spiraling.
I found myself stepping on the scale before and after each workout…
Calorie counting obsessively…
Facetuning all of my photos until I thought I looked pretty…
Going Keto!
Going Vegan!
Going Paleo!
Now a college student in Miami, FL, surrounded by a standard of beauty called “Perfection”
My plan?
Keep pursuing the “next best thing” to lose weight.
So I became a certified barre and Pilates instructor AND a holistic health coach…
While I learned some helpful tips and looked more "fit," nothing changed internally.
One afternoon, I remember curling up in a ball on my floor as my tears rolled into my dog’s soft black fur...
I finally decided, “Something needs to change. I’m over it. I can’t live this way anymore.”
For years, I had been on an endless cycle of trying to punish my body to get the results I wanted…
But no matter the progress, I still wasn’t happy.
Then one day...
I heard a quote that changed EVERYTHING for me:
“You can’t hate yourself into a body that you love.”
Then it really hit me...
“I can’t HATE myself into a body that I LOVE...”
My whole world changed.
I committed to myself, “I’m done hating myself. I need to LOVE myself.”
I started posting workout videos with affirmations in them, and women started following along, growing, and learning with me.
My YouTube channel reached 300,000+ subscribers.
By popular request, I launched an app and called it "Sweaty Studio."
Now? Our community has over 900,000+ women.
