Who is THAT Pilates Girl
Before we jump into the how, let’s talk about the what. What does it even mean to be THAT Pilates girl?
First off, it’s not about having the perfect body or being some unattainable version of yourself. Nope. THAT Pilates girl is someone who prioritizes both physical and mental health in a balanced, sustainable way. She doesn’t beat herself up when things aren’t perfect, and she certainly doesn’t compare herself to others. Instead, she embraces the journey with confidence.
Being THAT Pilates girl is all about connection. It’s about feeling strong in your body because you’re consistently moving, fueling yourself with nourishing food, and giving yourself grace when things aren’t going as planned. She is mentally and physically aligned, with a mindset that allows her to embrace each day with a sense of empowerment and joy.
You don’t need to be flawless to be THAT Pilates girl—you just need to be connected to your own power and radiance. And the best part? You get to define what that means for you.
Build Your Pilates Routine
Now, let’s talk about the heart of this lifestyle: Pilates. If you’ve heard me talk about Pilates before, you know how much I love it. But let me just say: Pilates is more than just a workout—it’s a way of life. It’s about connecting to your body, strengthening from the inside out, and nurturing your well-being.
The key to making Pilates a lifestyle is building a consistent, sustainable routine that feels good for you. Here’s how to do it:
1. Start Small
Don’t feel like you need to do an hour-long Pilates session right out of the gate. Start with shorter workouts—10 to 15 minutes is a great place to begin. The most important thing is consistency. Make Pilates a non-negotiable part of your week, even if it’s just a few minutes each day. Trust me, those small moments add up. Results take time. With any workout type, you will likely start to see/feel results after a month of consistent exercise. Be patient and love yourself every day. This has to be something you enjoy for you to want to stick with it, so be careful of overworking your body right at the beginning of your new fitness regime!
2. Mix It Up
Variety is the spice of life, especially when it comes to Pilates. You don’t have to do the same routine every single day. Mix it up with different types of workouts: full-body flows, targeted workouts for abs or legs, and recovery days where you focus on stretching and breathwork. This keeps your body engaged, and it prevents the 2 pain-in-the-B's: boredom & burnout.
I always recommend following a weekly calendar to keep things interesting. If you’re looking for a resource to help you plan, you can check out my Sweaty Studio app, which offers monthly Pilates schedules designed to give you a variety of classes tailored to your goals.
3. Set the Mood
This is one of my favorite tips. Turn your Pilates sessions into a self-care ritual. Light a candle or salt lamp, play your favorite playlist, and set the vibe so that movement feels like an experience rather than just another workout. Pilates isn’t just about sweating it out and toning your body; it’s about enjoying the process of reconnecting with yourself.
4. Track Your Progress
Pilates is about how you feel, not just the number on the scale. So track your progress in ways that matter to you - weight can be deceiving since gaining muscle and losing fat simulatneously leads to weight gain. WHAT?!?! That's right. When you get leaner and stronger, you may not "lose weight" but you will absolutely "gain muscle" and "lose fat" - two things that can be beneficial to your hot bod. :)
Tracking your progress could look like measuring how much longer you can hold a plank, how much stronger you feel, or simply how much more grounded and centered you are after each session. Keep a journal or use the community section in our app to jot down those little wins.
If you’re new to Pilates and don’t know where to start, don’t worry—I’ve created a FREE Pilates Starter Guide just for you. It includes a 1-week plan to help you get moving without feeling overwhelmed.
Cultivate the Pilates Girl Mindset
Pilates isn’t just about the body—it’s about creating a powerful mind-body connection that supports your growth both inside and outside the studio. That’s why mindset is so important. A positive mindset will propel you toward your goals and help you embrace your journey, even on days when things feel tough.
1. Practice Gratitude
Starting or ending your day with a gratitude practice can completely shift your perspective. Write down three things you’re grateful for every day, and you’ll notice that you start seeing the positive in your life more easily. It doesn’t have to be anything big—it can be as simple as “I’m grateful for my morning coffee” or “I’m grateful for this beautiful day.”
2. Use Affirmations
I know, I know. Saying affirmations might feel a little silly at first. But trust me—affirmations are powerful tools. Before your Pilates session, try saying, “I am strong. I am capable. I am enough.” This simple practice will help you step into your workout with confidence and a sense of purpose. You go, girl!!
3. Release Comparison
One of the biggest obstacles we face in today’s world is comparison. But THAT Pilates girl isn’t trying to be anyone else. She’s focused on her own journey and doesn’t waste energy comparing herself to others. If certain accounts make you feel less-than, mute them. Instead, surround yourself with creators and accounts that inspire you to be YOURSELF.
4. Set Intentions
Before you begin your Pilates session, take a moment to set an intention for your workout. It could be something simple, like, “Today, I’m showing up for myself,” or “Today, I’ll focus on strength and breath.” Setting an intention gives your practice purpose and direction.
When you shift your mindset, Pilates becomes more than just exercise—it becomes a tool to connect with your inner strength, your resilience, and your ability to grow.
Nourish Your Body
Pilates is an amazing way to strengthen your body, but nourishing your body with the right fuel is just as important. That’s why THAT Pilates girl knows the importance of nourishing herself with love and balance—not restriction or guilt.
1. Hydration is Queen
Water is absolutely essential for your body, so start your day with a big glass of water. You can even add lemon or a pinch of sea salt to kickstart your metabolism. Staying hydrated helps you feel more energized and keeps your muscles functioning at their best during your Pilates sessions.
2. Prioritize Whole Foods
Your body craves real, whole foods that provide energy and nourishment. Think colorful fruits and veggies, lean proteins, healthy fats, and whole grains. One super yummy smoothie recipe calls for: milk of your choice, spinach, banana, almond/natural peanut butter, and a dash of cinnamon. It’s delicious and will fuel you for a strong workout session.
3. Snack Smart
When you need a snack, choose options that will sustain you and keep you energized. Grab some nuts, Greek yogurt with fruit, or hummus and veggies. These will keep your energy steady throughout the day and prevent you from reaching for less nutritious options. One of my faves is a Healthier PB&J - Dave's white bread, natural creamy peanut butter, and natural jelly. That way you don't get all the toxic additives, harmful oils, or loads of excess sugar which cause energy crashes and junk food cravings. :)
4. Ditch the Guilt
Remember: food is fuel, but it’s also about enjoyment. It’s okay to indulge every once in a while—whether that’s pizza with friends or a bowl of ice cream. That Pilates girl knows that balance is key and doesn’t let guilt take over. Food freedom baby!!!
Create a Supportive Environment
Your environment plays a huge role in supporting your journey to becoming THAT Pilates girl. If you want to succeed, you’ve got to set yourself up for success.
1. Organize Your Workout Area
Create a space where you can move freely and feel comfortable. Whether it’s a corner of your living room or a full-on home studio, keep your mat, weights, and props accessible. When your space is organized, it makes it so much easier to show up for your practice.
2. Curate Your Feed
Social media can be a great tool for inspiration, but it can also be overwhelming if you’re following accounts that don’t align with your values. Curate your feed with accounts that motivate and uplift you. Follow people who inspire you to be the best version of yourself. Set timers limiting your time on certain apps - and STICK TO THEM!! :)
3. Find a Community
One of the best parts of joining my Sweaty Studio app is the community. You’ll have the chance to connect with other amazing women who are on the same journey. Having a group of people cheering you on and sharing their wins makes all the difference.
Celebrate Your Wins
Every little win counts! Celebrate your progress, no matter how small it may seem. Here are a few ways to reward yourself:
- Treat yourself to a new workout set. :)
- Make a nourishing meal or have a coffee date with friends.
- Journal about how far you’ve come since you started.
- Try a new Pilates class from my app or explore a new flow.
Every time you show up for yourself, that’s a win. Remember, progress is progress, no matter the size.
