How to glow up the "Barbie" way...

Hi my queens, or should I say Barbies? I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for the upcoming Barbie movie AND I have a super fun Barbie Barre live class coming this Saturday, July 22 in celebration! I hope to see you there.

All this talk about Barbie has me thinking... one thing I love about how Barbie has kept up with the times is the fact that their message in recent years has been “you can be anything.”

This message reminds me that every single one of us has the potential to live the life of our dreams, be the person God designed us to be, and to wake up confident in who we are. Barbie embodies this and as cliché and cheesy as it sounds, I think we all should as well.

Sometimes as we get older, we lose sight of our childlike curiosity in exploring the passions that bring us joy and light us up. I’d like you to take some time to explore the hobbies that you loved as a child.

There’s a lot of pressure to have ourselves and our lives all figured out once we become an adult, but the reality is that we are always growing, learning, exploring, and discovering new things.

Below are a few of my tips for beginning your self-discovery journey the Barbie way!

#1 Take time to rediscover your personal passions and hobbies

Just because you’re an adult doesn’t mean everything you do has to be centered around how much money it might bring in or whether it’s the responsible thing to do.

What I love about rediscovering childlike curiosity is that it reminds us that we can do things simply because we enjoy them!

So think about things you actually love doing or if there is something you’ve always wanted to try but never got around to, then give it a shot! It’s so worth it to find things that bring you joy!

One of the things that's been bringing me joy is this 20 min Barbie Pilates workout for beginners I filmed for you!! Check it out below.

#2 Be curious and never stop learning new things

Maybe when you were a kid you wanted to understand everything around you. Or maybe you wanted to try a lot of different activities to see which ones you liked best. We should continue doing this no matter how old we are.

I know things like work, relationships, and responsibilities sometimes get in the way, but I believe it’s important to carve out time to learn things simply because we’re curious. This goes back to what I said earlier about not necessarily doing things because you think it will bring you income, while that’s needed at times, I think it’s so fulfilling to learn skills simply because they are fun.

Adults need play time too and this is a great way to learn more about yourself! There might be something out there you’d be amazing at that you haven’t even tried.

#3 Practice self reflection consistently

It’s so easy to be distracted when so much is going on in the world around us and we have access to many people in the palm of our hands, but taking some time to yourself to just reflect on your life, your habits, your feelings, your passion, your values etc. is so incredibly important.

I’m such a huge advocate for journaling, and I sometimes even incorporate journal prompts with my monthly programs because I just love how much we’re able to deepen our relationships with ourselves when we take time to write out how we’re feeling, challenge any negative beliefs, and reflect on the direction our lives are headed.

If writing isn’t your thing, that's okay too! As long as you’re taking time to check in with yourself, you'll be continuously learning new things about yourself, your needs, your value, what brings you joy and ultimately what your purpose is.

#4 Always be kind to yourself

Last but definitely not least, please always be kind to yourself. As you’re continuing to discover who you are, it’s important to release judgment and shame. Anything that makes you feel guilty is from the enemy, not God. Start to identify the lies in your mind and take them captive. This will help you rewire your brain into the way God sees you!

You are worthy of being confident in who you are!

Well there you have it! Who would’ve thought Barbie could inspire such a positive perspective. I hope you enjoyed this post and, if you’re interested in participating in our Barbie Barre live class Saturday, 7/22 at 10am EDTsign up here!
